We have lunch at Dean’s Super Subs around the corner from school.
Does “around the corner” mean “from the school and it is at the corner of the street” or “from the school turn left of turn right and it’s somewhere there”?

close to the school
'just around the corner' can mean close by, or it could mean literally go out of the school and turn around the corner.

Turn the corner
before you reach the cafe, restaurant or whatever. Otherwise it would be "on the corner".

Armorel Young
: yes, and IMO it doesn't just mean close to the school, it means you've got to go round a corner to get there

: I think Armorel is right. There are other expressions for proximity like "right next to" or "right accross the road from", so maybe we should not discount the distinction here.

Please see my comment on David Moore\'s answer. Armorel points out an important point there. I retract my suggestion that it just means very close to the school.
