She was driving and talking on the phone at the same time.
“…..hold on” I interrupted myself so I could exchange bastardized sign language with the parking attendant
What does it mean by bastardized here?

she was making hand motions (sign language) to the parking attendant either because they didn't speak the same language or because she was too far away to be heard
Note: sign language is an official language

not original
Not the real sign language used by professional signers, but gestures understood by most people.

improvised
This word is usually used to describe a technique that is borrowed and used in an imperfect way.

made up
Normally it bastardized when used like this means created from different unrelated sources that don't really fit. Since the narrator liekly does not know real sign language, she is probably saying, that she made up the "sign language" out of everyday gestures rather then using real sign language as her base.

debased OR corrupted OR damaged OR impaired OR spoiled OR degraded OR perverted
Take your pick. It's not simply made up or improvised but 'made lesser'.

: these terms are great but do not fit this situation (way too negative)

possibly, but improvised doesn't cover it either IMO

: No, in this case it would mean they don't know how to sign properly, they're making up gestures which are supposed to suggest words.

: bastardized, literally. But in this context not applicable. Perhaps only corrupted form of sign language could have been used.
