French to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion thermal underwear
Hello,

In a document about thermal underwear, I have the following:

: Résistance thermique Rct
• 0,06 =

Herbmione Granger Sep 12, 2017:
Hi Idna You do not need to "translate" the "ct," because it is a subscript that is (edit) part of the symbol of a property. Therefore, Rsub(ct) = résistance thermique = thermal resistance. See reference: http://www.jeffjournal.org/papers/Volume7/7.3.10F.Rombaldoni...
Note: Another property of interest is Rsub(et) = water-vapour resistance. https://www.iso.org/standard/19081.html

Idna (asker) Sep 12, 2017:
Sorry, it looks like my question did not appear as intended. I had added the following : : Résistance thermique Rct
• 0,06 =<Rct<0,12 Classe 1
• 0,12 =<Rct<0,18 Classe 2
• 0,18 =<Rct<0,25 Classe 3

I know that "Rct" is just the symbol for résistance thermique, as ISO.org points out:
Rct
différence de température entre les deux faces de la matière, divisée par le flux de chaleur par unité de surface dans la direction du gradient

But I can't work out what the "ct" stands for (conductivité thermique??) and how to convey the whole thing in English. I have come across "R-value" but not sure if this is the correct translation.

Now that I have three different answers, I am not sure which one is right!

Thanks to all.

Thermal "R"esistance to "c"onductive heat transfer ("t"extile)

Note from asker:
I think you are right. Impressed - how did you find this? There seem to be very few references to Rct out there. Thank you!!
This is actually a note to Lorraine. Does Rct (ct in subscript as pointed out by Charles) still work in English though?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Lorraine Dubuc : Résistance à la conductivité thermique donc, ce qui revient souvent dans la domumentation sur le textile.

agree Charles Davis : The c and t should be subscript, strictly speaking.

Note from asker:
Yes, as Eren indicated, it seems to be in English already. Thank you!

This paper explains the difference between total thermal resistance and thermal contact resistance See bottom of page 299 and top of page 300): https://www.degruyter.com/downloadpdf/j/aut.2014.14.issue-4/...
Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : neither of your refs seems to involve native English speakers (or translators I'd assume)

neutral Lorraine Dubuc : Several documents can be found on the Net about Thermal Contact Resistance. I am not sure if it is not more about thermal conductivity resistance though.
