German to English Science Botany
Diese gefüllten Sommerastern zeichnen sich durch ihre krallenartige Blütenform, die Chrysanthemen gleichen, aus. Diese Freiland-Schnittblumen eignen sich für die Sommer- und Herbsternte. Herbmione Granger Aug 10, 2017:
Sommeraster is the common name for Callistephus chinensis. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sommeraster There are many varieties, one of which I grow in my garden. I think that gardeners will also recognize "full-petaled/petalled," as this is a term I already knew, but "double" could be preferred (it certainly is by Phil).

Dear Phil! I am very sorry for this. However, I only posted a translation request for the term "Sommeraster" from German into Spanish (but not into English). Please post your answer and I will definitely award points when closing it!

Martina You posted a question about this same sentence a month ago, and someone answered, but you ignored this and closed the question without awarding points.

In my opinion, and as a translator of many gardening books, none of the three answers is correct. I think it should be "double, summer-flowering asters". You left out the beginning of this seed catalogue entry, which is online, and says that the plant is Callistephus chinensis, China aster. That's its common name, which is Krallenaster in German, and which appears at the top of the entry.

"Sommerastern" is a description, summer-flowering asters, not the name of the plant.

I'd like to post this, but I don't want to go to all the trouble just for you to close the question without choosing an answer (not necessarily mine, though I believe it's the right one).

double-flowered flat-topped white aster

Martina, I love gardening though I'm not a botany-savvy translator :)

Großer Muret Sanders Deutsch-Englisch ge'fülltblü·tig adj Botanik double-flowered, with a double flower; andropetalar, andropetalous NAT

I'm sure you have the Sommeraster (Leo):
flat-topped white aster [BOT.]
parasol whitetop [BOT.]

Hope it helps

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I think Leo is wrong. Flat-topped white aster is the common name of Doellingeria umbellata. This is Callistephus chinensis.

neutral philgoddard : "Full-petalled" is just another term for "double", the term botanists usually use.
