Discussion

Nikki Scott-Despaigne Jul 18, 2017:
@Mary-Ann I raised the point in my answer about supposing that a "et" was missing. However, Mrrafe's anwer suppose that the "s" on "moléculaire" is a typo. Can you confirm?

Mrrafe's suggestion supposes that an "et" is missing and that the "s" is a typo.

I'm not sure we're at the bottom of this one yet.
Info on the original course source would help clear this up.

It would probably help to know the name of the FR uni concerned. I've found traces of a DEA with the same title (no "et" but with the "s") a the unis of Limoges and Clermont Ferrand, depending on the date. A source here at page 43, exactly as you cite, no comma, no "et" but with the "s": https://www.ephe.fr/ecole_doctorale/guide-ecole-doctorale-24...
mrrafe Jul 18, 2017:
Merci Nikki & Mary Ann... My proposal was based only on the UMD link. Didn't check whether other universities may use different terminology, thinking one university would suffice to establish legitimacy.
Mary-Ann Marque (asker) Jul 18, 2017:
I don't think the "S" means molecular physiology, because it would then be Doctorat en physiologie et génétique moléculaires as there is no "et" I agree with mrrafe
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Jul 18, 2017:
Question about the "s" The "s" on "moléculaireS" makes sense if it means "molecular physiology" and molecular genetics". Could you confirm?

neutral Nikki Scott-Despaigne : This supposes two mistakes: a missing "et" and a typo for the "s" in the ST. Your EN source certifies the EN course exists but does not show how it relates to the FR source.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "thank you!"

PhD in Molecular Physiology and Molecular Genetics

If the "s" on "moélculaireS" is intentional, then this is a PhD in Molecular Physiology and Molecular Genetics, and the "molecular" needs to be repeated in EN to show it applies to both.

Not a high confidence level as my suggestion supposes words ("et"?) are missing in the FR.

Doctorate in Molecular Genetic Physiology

A doctorate in one specialized field, genetic physiology at the molecular level.

Genetic Physiology: http://ki.se/en/fyfa/genetic-physiology

cellular genetic physiology: "In adult β1/β2-adrenergic receptor (AR) double-knockout mouse myocytes, adenovirus-directed expression of either β1- or β2-AR, which occurred in 100% of cells, rescued the functional response to β-AR agonist stimulation. These techniques will permit novel experimental settings for cellular genetic physiology." http://ajpheart.physiology.org/content/279/1/H429
vs.
molecular genetic physiology: "Changes at the level of morphology reflect the molecular genetic physiology of the cells. The molecular milieu can be understood via complementary approaches—treatment of the entire transcriptome as a phenotype, and consideration of expression profiles of individual genes [9]." http://europepmc.org/articles/PMC4403905/

The mysterious "s" might not be a problem.
There is a Centre de Génétique et de Physiologie Moléculaires et Cellulaires https://ciliajournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/2046... . Possible explanation: The main subdivisions for physiology are animal physiology, plant physiology, etc. Molecular physiology means physiology at the molecular level/view, not the physiology of molecules.
and Genetic Physiology is "Physiologie génétique" and means the study of physiology using genetics (methods) http://progcours.ulg.ac.be/cocoon/cours/SDOC0046-1.html
However, I am not a physiologiste.

neutral Nikki Scott-Despaigne : A possible solution but that does not account for the "s" which is not a typo. See discussion section.

Thanks! I added a note for the "s" if you want to check it out.
