savate
You may also try this one. I've noticed that people like to call their pets with funny names. So try savate and see if the cat respond.
By the way savate is an old shoe.

chaussettes
Shoe = chaussure or sometimes semelle (technical sense). However like Albert I would prefer chaussettes (socks) in the following case:
If you would like to name your cat "shoes" because he has white "feet" with an overall black color, you should name it "chaussettes" rather than shoes
because, in such a case, we say in french that he has some "jolies chaussettes".
Hoe it helps !

chaussons
it is the name of shoes you wear in the house. It is also funny if your cat has white feet.
