Catalan term

fosa

Catalan to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
I've encountered these terms in an otherwise "translator-friendly" text, referring to relics and reliquaries.
I'll post them one by one.
Is there a Cat>Eng. doctor in the house?

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Feb 4, 2004:
Sorry, Sandra, Sheila. Thought I'd posted this in all of them.....Duh,

Catalog title:
Reliquiari del vel de la Mare de Du
Segona meitat del segle XV
Argent daurat, repujat i cisellat amb elements de fosa
51 x 28 x 17,5 cm
Tresor de la Catedral de Barcelona

Sandra Alboum Feb 4, 2004:
Oh- then my definitions for repussat and fosa are wrong, but cisellat should be fine.
Non-ProZ.com Feb 4, 2004:
Thanks Sandra, but my mistake. The full sentence which I posted before was:
Argent daurat, cisellat i repussat, fosa i esmalt

melting (snow, etc., casting (metal), smelting, fouding (metal)

It would depend on the exact context - but I imagine it's referring to metal. If it's snow it'd be melting of course.
