Italian term

risale a giorno

Italian to English Social Sciences Geology
This is from an article on the structure of the earth. This part deals specifically with plains and springs.

"A giorno" sounds to me like a technical term here, but I have no idea what it means, much less how to translate it. I'd be very grateful for any help you may be able to provide me with. TIA
