Discussion

neilmac Nov 16, 2016:
Au contraire In Castilian Spanish, the term 'solera' is used to evoke ageing and tradition. Like "Old Hickory" sound better than just Hickory, and Ol' Hickory sounds even cosier, these are nuances that go beyond dictionary definitions. In the following example, it could be loosely translated as "the right stuff": 'Y se ha vuelto un hombre con solera, o como los grandes vinos un Gran Reserva.'
Joel Schaefer Nov 16, 2016:
clarification Actually, the solera is the bottom tier of barrels (under the criaderas) as well as the whole system of tiers. The word has nothing to do with tradition, quality or old.

"solera" (tradition-quality; old sherry)

Probablemente no traduciría el nombre al inglés. Es decir,
... the word/term "solera" (tradition-quality; old sherry) comes from [...] "suelo" (ground) ... etc.
