Spanish term

preterito

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) gastroenteritis
Hello,

I would appreciate some help with this word as I have no idea what it means.

Context:

Paciente masculino, casado, viajaba en Crucero maritimo, no tabaquismo actual, preterito desde los 14 años, suspendido hace 1 semana, hasta una cajetilla por día, no alcoholismo.

Thank you!

I agree with Guillermo Thanks, Guillermo. I agree with you. Definitely the Spanish is grammatically incorrect, but the meaning is "past".
Guillermo Urbina Valdés Nov 10, 2016:
It is a mistake, but a common one (unfortunately) I have actually seen this before in medical reports from Spain. It's not correct grammar by far but "no tabaquismo" means "does not currently smoke". Search for "tabaquismo pretérito" on Google and you can actually find it used in this way in a few instances.

Context Hi Liz,
At first sight, it seems to be a mistake, but I can't figure it out. Besides, the phrases "no tabaquismo", and "no alcoholismo", are unnatural in Spanish (it seems a bad translation). Perhaps you could provide more context before considering it a mistake. For example, where's the text from? (country?).
Best regards,
Monica
