Backpayment

English to French Law/Patents Law: Taxation & Customs
What is this word in Parisian French please?
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Germaine

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

CONTEXT is needed here because there are various words for this - it all depends what the payment is exactly. Please post the whole sentence if you want a reliable answer.

Reverso traduit back-payment par remboursement.

Par ailleurs, ne pas confondre pay et payment, paie et paiement. La premiere s'applique uniquement aux salaires, la deuxieme aux achats (consommables et investissements). En matiere d'investissement, backpayment signifie rentabilisation de l'achat, ce qui equivaut a son remboursement.

disagree Germaine : C'est pas plutôt un arriéré? Il me semble que vous confondez avec "repayment". // Justement! backpayment n'est pas payback! Logiquement, back payment = paiement en arrière = arriéré.

Non, je ne confonds pas. To pay back signifie que le paiement fait marche arriere, autrement dit rembourser. Alors, logiquement, le substantif qui s'applique a ce verbe, back payment, signifie remboursement.

backpayment = rappel in French, a word more precise than 'remboursement' in French.

I added 'de taxes' because 'Customs and Taxes' defines the expression submitted for translation.

Peer comment(s):

disagree Germaine : je suppose que vous vouliez dire "arriéré/arrérages (de paiement)" - le rappel ne serait qu'un avis et le "rappel de taxe" est un "tax payback". // Rappel reste équivoque. Quant à "Not the meaning in the US" (?!!?) vous avez bien lu votre ajout?

THis is not the meaning of 'backpayment' in the US. The word 'rappel' in French can have a meaning other than a reminder (see above)
