pediatric intestinal disease
This is from a report on a newborn with multiple congenital problems that are being diagnosed and treated one after the other. The final diagnosis of the bowel problems is going to be Hirschsprung's disease, although this is not known at the beginning and other conditions were addressed first:
" ... quadro di occlusione intestinale (vomito biliare, distensione). Un Rx tubo digerente mostra un quadro di malrotazione: Treitz in sede mediana con anse digiunali tutte posizionate nell'emiaddome di dx ..."
In this sentence, I just need to be sure how to say that this ligament of Treitz is "in sede mediana". Is it "in midline position"? "In the center"?
I"ve found a description of intestinal malrotation in wikipedia, but it doesn't quite tell me what this sede mediana is ... see:
- the small bowel is found predominantly on the right side of the abdomen [this part fits]
- the ligament of Treitz is displaced inferiorly and rightward [this part is close but not quite the words I need]
Thanks for clarifying this for me.

midline position
Not sure which is the most natural way to put this in an English medical report, but I think your own suggestion 'midline position' fits best: An upper gastrointestinal series demonstrated signs of malrotation: midline position of the ligament of Treitz, and shift of all intestinal loops to the right hemiabdomen.
As stated in the discussion box, a midline position of the ligament of Treitz would mean a slight rightward displacement of this ligament (=sign of intestinal malrotation), as the ligament usually sits left of the midline.

Ciao Enrica. Thank you also for your suggestion. "on its midline" or "in its midline" are not used in English ... just for your information. See the two comments in the discussion, above, for better ways of saying this. |
