Italian term

Incastrare

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) Gastroenterology
Hi there,

I am translating this article about children ingesting batteries.

There is this sentence that I am not too sure about, it says: "di solito gli eventi avversi si verificano se il corpo esterno si incastra nel lume".

I do not know how to translate "si incastra", I search in Google Scholar and could not come up with anything that sounded satisfying.. my attempt is: "usually, adverse events occure when the foreign body is SNAGGED/EMBEDDED in the lumen", but it does not sound right to me...

Help please?? :D

impacted/lodged

If the intended register is more formal/academic....

Foreign bodies lodged in the esophagus should be removed endoscopically, but some small, blunt objects may be pulled out using a Foley catheter

A variety of foreign bodies may enter the GI tract. Many pass spontaneously, but some become impacted, causing symptoms of obstruction

While some small foreign bodies will pass, many will become lodged along the gastrointestinal tract and cause discomfort and make your
pet sick.

trapped

it could be snared, trapped, snagged, but embedded seems to me to be something that occurs with purpose or over a long period of time. My idea is to be as simple as possible.

to get stuck

This is one of those terms for which the English version depends highly on context, but in this case I believe "gets stuck" fits perfectly.
