Procedura

Recall (also known as a consumer level recall): This is a removal of unsafe product from the distribution chain and extends to products sold to consumers and therefore involves communication with consumers.

Withdrawal (also known as a trade level recall): This is the removal of an unsafe product from the distribution chain but does not extend to products sold to the consumers.

The recall process starts immediately upon receiving information on non-complaint product from either a consumer or the competent authorities.

Evaluation of safety issue (recall or withdrawal)
• Communication with the authorities
• Identifying the root cause of non-compliance
• Eliminating the non-compliance factor
• Re-testing to ensure compliance

Press release
As appropriate issue recall notice to newspapers, magazines, specialty press including the following:
• Clear identification of product using photo and description.
• Date of production and sale
• Identity of stores where the product was sold (if possible)
• Description of the defect and the hazard
• Advise how to obtain the remedy – call manufacturer, return to retailer etc.
