French term

clamage

French to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Window manufacture for metro transport company
For an illustration of "clames" see:
http://sgt-promati.com/project/clamage-rapide-pour-etancheit...
This is not a typo meaning "clamping"/"clamp" - the term is in general use. Nevertheless, I wonder if in origin it was a misspelling of the English word. I've thought of "fastening/fastener" or "clamping"/"clamp" but maybe there's a trade word?

Conception de principe

En définition technique, nous proposons la réalisation de ce projet selon 2 conceptions de fixation caisse.

- Fixation par clamage et vissage
- Fixation par clippage automatique.

Fixation par clippage automatique
(Illustration showing a cross section of window glazing, beading, profiled frame and metal chassis, with the "clame" securing the profiled frame to the metal chassis)

@Chris And we're not badly off in English either ... to dog, to cock (up), to beaver (away), to swan (around), to badger, to hen (peck), to fox, to duck ...

@C-A You're on form today...! I'm sure there must be a glossary of animal-related words somewhere: dos d'âne, pied d'éléphant, bec, grue, chèvre, crapaud, col de cygne, etc. etc...
claude-andrew (asker) Dec 17, 2015:
@Chris Trust the frogs to come up with a crappy name
kashew Dec 15, 2015:
@CC In your Maurin ref. EN version the crapauds are translated as clamps.
I think we've been here before - not so long ago?!
chris collister Dec 15, 2015:
Could these clams also be toads?? http://www.emile-maurin.fr/fixation-boulonnerie-visserie/fix... You might even use a goat to swing them from the beak of a crane...

agree philgoddard : I think this must be the meaning. I can't find it in a dictionary, but it looks like a clamp in the asker's picture, and (for what it's worth) clame appears to mean clip in Romanian.
