Discussion

philgoddard Aug 26, 2015:
Ana Maria Did you ever get an answer from the client?
Johannes Gleim Aug 20, 2015:
@ gangels This is not conclusive. The brackets can also specify the object of the drawings.
gangels (X) Aug 20, 2015:
Since it is bracketed to follow 'Zeichnungen', it must be somewhat similar to 'schemata' or 'blueprints'
Darin Fitzpatrick Aug 19, 2015:
Use of parentheses in German This entry has a good example of the use of parentheses to insert a word or phrase into a sentence without bothering to connect it grammatically. I mention this because the "Prüfzwetschgen" are almost certainly not identical to the "Zeichnungen" (as would be assumed in English). Rather, the author is making a more specific reference that is somehow related to the sentence's theme. The exact connection is left to the reader's intuition.
Johannes Gleim Aug 19, 2015:
@ philgoddard I referred to your posting "I reckon it's an OCR error for Zeichnungen". Even "Zeichnungen" and "Zwetschgen" looks different. I didn't assume any error, but think it's a slang jargon in the company or branch and asked me, what I would call it correctly.
Ana Maria Edlin (asker) Aug 19, 2015:
OCR errors and context The blisters are for the sterile packaging of surgical instruments.
I received the file as a Word document and do not believe that it has been OCRed.
One clue that has just occurred to me is that the company is Swiss.
I have already informed my client but I just thought there might be somebody out there who actually knows, and it also seemed an interesting term for Kudoz.
Darin Fitzpatrick Aug 19, 2015:
Ask the client When a word returns literally zero Google hits, it's best to ask the client exactly what he means by it. Speculation is fun but unlikely to be fruitful.
(Pun very much intended.)
philgoddard Aug 19, 2015:
What do you mean "so viele", Johannes? It's only one. And Prüfzeichnungen has more similarities to this word than Prüfkörper. I think the fact that the word appears in brackets after Zeichnungen makes my suggestion more likely.
Johannes Gleim Aug 19, 2015:
So viele OCR-errors? Prüfzwetschgen hat mit Zeichnungen keinerlei Ähnlichkeit.

Da es um Blisterverpackungen geht, liegt es nahe, an oval geformte Prüfkörper zu denken, die z.B. eine Glühlampe oder ähnliche Teile simulieren. Vermutlich handelt es sich hier um eine umgangssprachliche Bezeichung.

Gibt es weitere Hinweise zu diesem Teil? Wozu dienen die Blisterverpackugen? Was soll darin verpackt werden?
Darin Fitzpatrick Aug 19, 2015:
Educated guess - drawing symbol Because this indicates a feature that requires inspection, and is specifically associated with drawings, I expect that it is a drawing symbol. Probably one that looks a bit like a plum.
philgoddard Aug 19, 2015:
I reckon it's an OCR error for Zeichnungen. Nothing to do with damsons.
Ana Maria Edlin (asker) Aug 19, 2015:
Kontext Nein, es hat mit Obst gar nichts zu tun. Es handelt sich um die Qualitätsprüfung von Blisterverpackungen.
Johannes Gleim Aug 19, 2015:
Kontext hat dies mit maschineller Verarbeitung von Obst zu tun? Eventuell bei der Kalibrierung von Sieben?

Proposed translations

Prüfzeichnungen

Test/inspection drawings.
See the discussion entries. I think this is the most likely explanation - Zwetschgen means damson, which makes no sense.

inspection callout

See discussion entry. If my deduction about the original meaning is correct, then this is the appropriate English term.
