English term

kelp and seaweed

Students explore plants that live in the water, such as kelp and seaweed. Students discuss eating seaweed and sample a variety of seaweed edibles.

quelpo y (otras) algas marinas

Peer comment(s):

neutral Neil Ashby : "quelpo" doesn't appear in the dictionary of the RAE, it only seems to apply around Patagonia. The Collins ref you quote states "(botany) "quelpo m (de Patagonia)" ", so it seems to be a specific name used for a certain kelp or in a specific region.

I would trust Collins, though.
agree Maximo Wilhelm Muñoz : Of course it doesn´t appear at the RAE Dictionaries. However, it seems to be a sort of slang in the bio-science.

Thank you, Maximo.

Thanks Neil, but it does not matter. You had answered by then. I spend too much time researching first! LOL!
