El silencio se rompía por el chasquido de la madera que agonizaba entre las llamas de la chimenea mientras la contemplaba. Tenía ganas de lanzar la carta y de quemar sus letra, ya que desprendía olor a sinrazones producidas por la situación de los colonos.
The protagonist is talking about the letter that requires that her husband report for military duty against the English.
Does this mean that the burning letter smelled as bad as the injustices that the English Crown was carrying out against the colonists?
