In 2014 new students were enrolled at Moscow State university.

Strel (asker) Jun 4, 2015:
In 2014 new students were enrolled at Moscow State university.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jun 4, 2015:
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jun 4, 2015:
Strel (asker) Jun 4, 2015:
In 2014 new students were enrolled at XXX university.
Turdimurod Rakhmanov Jun 4, 2015:
here провел набор студентов should be stressed В 2014 г.
Здесь университет должен быть в конце на английском как правило here провел набор студентов should be stressed not university

neutral Lazyt3ch : Looks like Runglish to me... P.S. By “Runglish” I meant not the term “admission”, but the whole phrase...

enrolled students/ had an annual student enrollment

The first translation is word for word, the second one tries to fit it in the context.

If a number of students is indicated, the first option is possible, too, like in this example:

For the bigger-is-better type student, the 10 universities with the largest undergraduate populations in fall 2013 enrolled an average of 43,186 students.

agree Lazyt3ch : I suspect that in 2014, the University enrolled students for the first time, so I support the first version (“enrolled students”). P.S. Maybe my suspicion is wrong, but why not specify the number of students, etc.? The sentence seems to be incomplete.

Thanks. I agree the sentence seems incomplete. So, you may be right about the first time. The 2nd option will work, too, in this case: In 2014 ... had the first student enrollment.

agree Turdimurod Rakhmanov : Yes it works, but I would not set a stress on university but what the university did, in English the word order is different than Russian.
