From a legal document from Spain for translation to British English. In the field of railway track laying. A drawing seems to show a small structure in metal profile on which the "ventana" is supported.

I can't find any solid webrefs to back up this answer, but the general context - and in particular the mention of "alces de distinto grosor" - very clearly points to 'shims', which are used to make fine adjustments to the vertical position of parts of a structure.
Also, there's an obvious relationship between 'alce' and 'alzar'.

Several of the well-known web dicos offer 'calce' as the Spanish translation of 'shim'. Maybe there's a typo (missing 'c') in the ST ... ?
Also, there's an obvious relationship between 'alce' and 'alzar'.
