Glossary entry (derived from question below)
English term or phrase:
IN or ON the market?
English answer:
in (the market).
English term
IN or ON the market?
We aim to be a recognisable brand in/on the market.
I know - plenty of explanations on the net, including so competent sources, like - well-known vocabularies, but I am still too weak to follow these explanations. Maybe... today? :).
TIA and kind regards!

If you do not want to go into deep discussions, just remember that 'in' rhymes with, or shall I say is similar to 'within.'
Great advice, mnemonically perfect! :) Thank you for that! |
It looks like your day of fame, acetran :)! I am more than happy too :) |

: I'd opt for that but I don't think "on" would be wrong either.

: I'd say 'in' here, as 'market' more or less equates to 'marketplace' (cf. "we are leaders in our field") However, 'on' for a product: "Our product is the best on the market"

: And I also agree with Tony. "Our product is the best on the market."

Rachel Braff
: I agree, "on the market" implies something specific that is being sold. The brand in this case is not being sold, it is the entity selling specific things/services. "In this real estate market, there are many homes on the market."

: Agree. Rachel's and Tony's explanations are helpful. Another "in" usage is, "I'm IN the market for a new car."

: putting my car "on the market" (for sale) I'm "in the market" for a new car (looking to buy) - this is the best brand "on the market" available - depends on which context you are using. (Eng native speaker). REGARDS...
