Yes lots of fish make noises., in fact thousands of species do. They are not audible to us because they are low frequency and usually in water.. The Doradidae, or Talking catfish which includes the common Raphael catfish make noises you can hear. They make a noise by pulling their pectoral fins into the socket making a squeak. The ir more famous noise comes from contracting a muscle that runs from their skull to the swim bladder. This produces a grunt which you can hear if you take one out of the water for a brief time.The noise is a distress signal, roughly equivalent to the human word "help!" The salt water fish called a Grunt gets it name from distress noise it makes as well.

More recently, it has been found that cichlids make up to 12 different noises.and as of this year, in Lake Victoria cichlids the noises were proven to be species specific, meaning there are hundreds of variations of the 10 or 12 basic noises cichlids make.Cichlids have two sets of teeth, including a set in their throat and in conjunction with their gills and swim bladders they make these noises with air and water.

The noises have been categorized as grunts, squeaks,knocks drumming, tapping, booming,croaking, growling, snorting and a few others.
