Discussion

Luiza Modesto (asker) May 25, 2014:
It's a scientific article on child labor written by Brazilian researchers. The term appears in the text exactly like it does above. There is nothing more in the text related to the term. The answers are incorrect because none is mentioned in sites that list statistical sampling methods. Random sampling is amostragem casualisada or aleatória. I believe the authors selected working children as they walked along the beaches (itinerante) but it's just a guess because they do not explain how they did it.
DLyons May 25, 2014:
Context is always necessary. Who wrote the source, what is about, where was it it written etc etc. How is the term being used in text?

Why don't you think any of the answers are right?
Luiza Modesto (asker) May 25, 2014:
This is a technical term, I don't think any context is necessary. Unfortunately Portuguese speakers are not big on creating glossaries and putting them online, or I would add a definition. All I know is that it's a kind of sampling method.
DLyons May 25, 2014:
@Luiza Why not post some context for the question then?
Luiza Modesto (asker) May 25, 2014:
Thanks very much for the suggestions but I do not think any of them are correct. I cannot find them in any site on sampling methods (except random sampling, but that is something else).

roving sampling

Seems to be "personal", adventitious sampling.

Yes, "convenience sampling" seems quite likely!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I don't think this is the right answer but your effort is worth the points, thank you. I think the author means "convenience sampling" but I don't know why he used the word "itinerante" instead. I'm going to add a link above."
