I'm sure about the meaning, but can't find the usual translation.
Some guns are deliberately set so that you have to see the target "floating in the air" above the bead to hit it; makes it easier to see what you are aiming at.
"True trap guns are heavy to reduce felt recoil, and set up to shoot high since the target is rising as soon as it exits the trap house. Plus, with a high shooting gun, you can "float" the target above the bead so it is always in your sight when you pull the trigger. With a flat-shooting field gun, you must, as mentioned above, cover the target with the bead (on straight-away's) when you pull the trigger. "

Perdre de vue la cible
Je n'ai jamais rencontré cette expression mais en prenant "float" comme "dériver" cela pourrait signifier "ne JAMAIS perdre de vue la cible" en l'occurrence le point laser...
