packing vs packaging By way of supplement to Tony M's entry, I see the difference as being that 'packaging' is the material in which the item is packed, and 'packing' is the process of placing it and securing it in that packaging; the total cost must reflect both the cost of the packaging material and the labour involved in placing the item in the packaging.

packing vs packaging We've had this sort of discussion on at least one prior occasion, but it's probably helpful to repeat my earlier suggestion here.
'packaging' very often refers to the immediate packaging surrounding the product — in some context, this will be, e.g. the actual bottle the juice is in; in others, it may be a self-contained product that is in, e.g. a blister pack.
By contrast, the 'packing' often refers to the way (usually several) items are packed together for shipping — e.g. in an outer carton.

hence 'packaging' is often part of the manufacturing process, whereas 'packing' may well be part of the logistics activity.
