English term

single

English to Indonesian Tech/Engineering Computers: Software social apps
Hi All,

Just want to ask your opinion... What do you think the best Indonesian term for "single" in a social dating app? Is it "lajang" or "bujangan" or should we just leave it as "single"?

Thank you!

no problem, this is a social dating app, not a published material. You know, in such app the language should be more flexible, doesn't have to be entirely in Indonesian, the thing is the users having fun with it.

Then that's not Indonesian :)
earlyesther (asker) Oct 16, 2013:
Okay, I think this time I'll leave it in English, as "Single". I think "lajang" is good for print media, since I have seen this term often used there, but for social apps, I think the users are youth and they need a bit more flexible/fluid language :) Thank you!

It's a preferential matter :)

jomblo

kalau mau istilah yang lebih populer di kalangan anak muda.
Note from asker:
ahhh! Why didn't I think of that?! Noted, Pak, tapi filenya sudah saya kirim kemarin... gpp lah pakai istilah 'single' biar app nya keren-an dikit :D
Peer comment(s):

lajang

Biasa digunakan baik untuk perempuan maupun laki-laki.

lajang

I prefer "Lajang" for its neutral sound.

In Kateglo, "bujangan" refers to an unmarried man
