: I think press type here is referring to letters typed by a typewriter rather than, say, a laser printer.

Thank you. But I have the impression that it's more "engraved" than just what a typewriter would produce. I believe that "type", or typing, in this meaning, is applied with a special pressing machine. Just guessing, however! Thanks again for your input.
