English term

Randomized

English to Afrikaans Medical Medical: Health Care Clinical trials
A Randomized, Double-Blind, Double-Dummy, Parallel Group Study. I want to establish whether there is a difference in translation between "random" and "randomized". I translated with "verewekansigde groepstudiestudie" in stead of "ewekansige".

Any suggestions colleagues?

Well, I think I'm the translator whose text you're reviewing, so my answer may not count, but here's my take: I suppose you could say that anyone who knows what a randomized study is will not be confused if the protocol title says "random study", but I prefer to be precise when talking about these things. In a reviewer role, I would certainly mark "ewekansige studie" as an error if I ever get it in a translation. There are times when the text lends itself to using the word "ewekansig", but in a protocol title I would not accept "ewekansig" for "randomised".
