Contract Agreement

English Bus/Financial General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters contract
Dear All,

I am translating a contract.

In my understanding, contract and agreement are similar. We can say service contract or service agreement, but not "contract agreement".

In the original source, "contract agreement" as the name of the contract. This is likely the first time I've faced this.

Google this, I found

My question: is it normal to use "contract agreement" and in which case?

Discussion

Sheila Wilson Jan 5, 2013:
It's all over the web - 2.7 million G hits But does that make it right? Sounds odd to me, certainly. "Contractual agreement" would be 100% valid, but I agree with you entirely about "contract agreement".

contractual agreement

Legally, an agreement isn't necessarily a contract. So "contractual agreement" works OK. You could just say "contract" too. I wouldn't say "contract agreement."

Contract

I would conclude that you only need the word "contract", since a contract is in fact an agreement that has been more formalised and binding (signed and including certain penalties for breach, etc.). See the links below.
