Spanish term

Tramo de Concentración de Accidentes (TCA)

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Transportation

¡Gracias!

So, even if the Highway Agency in UK and the NRA (National Roads Authority) may want to change to "accident cluster site" , presumably for political correctness reasons (?), "accident blackspot/black spot" is far more common

and yes, "black" can be seen as negative (nothing to do with skin colour) as in "it's a black day" etc.

agree Cristina Gonzalez : LOL yes indeed they are not in the back...

Indeed not. My dog knocked the "l" button on my keyboard so have to really press on the key or have no "l"
agree Neil Ashby : ...personally I don't think it's non-PC, because the term existed before PC existed! However I can understand that people don't like the association of "black = negative"....and it also appears that, yes there is a more technical term as Charles has found

thanks, /PC thing gone a bit overboard imo. Never heard Charles' entry used (even on documentaries about such accident spots) and think I only saw it written once before so it hasn't really taken off as term.
agree Charles Davis : I don't know who was first! // Did Justin search for "accident BACK spots", I wonder?

I believe I was as Taña's wasn't there when I first posted. (Only saw it when I added a link!):-)

Accident Cluster Sites

"blackspots" or ("black spots") is what they're normally called in ordinary language, and the term is used in official transport sources too, but if you want a jargon term, this is it. Somewhat less commonly you also find "accident cluster locations" and "accident cluster zones". "Accident cluster" is the standard term of art for "concentración de accidentes". It is a UK term; I don't know whether it is used in American English.

"The latest National Statistics on Accident Cluster Sites and Fatal Road Accidents on the Welsh Trans-European Road Network (TERN) produced by the Welsh Government were released on 24 January 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority. "

Peer comment(s):

agree justin taylor : This is it. An exact search for "accident cluster sites yields 58,000 results and an exact search for "accident back spots" only yields 32.

Thanks, Justin! But "accident black spots" is surely very common, though "back spots" much less so :)
