writing on Weibo, blogs and forums
Weibo is sufficiently well-known in Chinese circles that you can use it like "Twitter".
不太清楚撰写和评论有什么差别,是主贴和跟帖吗?一般在英文里我们不分。

@Pierrick - I used to recommend using "tweet" for Weibo, and still would in certain contexts, but I think Weibo is just about well enough known that we can use the word directly. Whether it will turn into a verb, I don't know

Note from asker:
Does posting, when used alone, mean both starting a topic and leaving a comment? |

: Probably "writing" means "authoring" and "commenting" means "reacting to something which has already been written by someone else"

I think you are right on that.. But does one "tweet" on "Weibo" then :-)

Yes, that makes sense. I which case I would not make the distinction in English. I don't think I've ever seen it made - particularly in Twitter, we don't vary the verb depending on whether it's a response or not. It's all tweeting.

posting and commenting on Chinese microblog and BBS services
Chinese use BBS-like services such as Tianya much more than westerners, and many like to compare Sina Weibo to Twitter.
In fact, Sina Weibo is used for micro-blogging and news much more than Twitter, which is why avoiding direct comparisons to Twitter should be avoided. The number of Chinese now using Sina Weibo is more than 200M.

He has actively posted on leading Chinese-language community social sites like Tianya.cn and the leading micro-blogging service, Sina Weibo.

I think it is necessary to slightly elaborate on 微博's translation as per my suggestion..

Discussion
On the other hand we are not sure if they know about Weibo (I am not sure myself if Weibo is a Chinese generic term for microblogging or if it is a brand name only relevant to Sina Weibo). As for BBS, I just know it is some kind of communication tool for techies. But I am not the ultimate reference in the field..
