English term

Yaw drive

English to Afrikaans Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Wind turbines
In my document the context is just sentences like "Stop the yaw drive", which is not very helpful, so instead here is the Wikipedia definition:

The yaw drive is an important component of the horizontal axis wind turbines' yaw system. To ensure the wind turbine is producing the maximal amount of electric energy at all times, the yaw drive is used to keep the rotor facing into the wind as the wind direction changes. This only applies for wind turbines with a horizontal axis rotor. The wind turbine is said to have a yaw error if the rotor is not aligned to the wind. A yaw error implies that a lower share of the energy in the wind will be running through the rotor area. (The generated energy will be proportional the cosine of the yaw error).

Have found "gier"(?) and "slinger" for "yaw" in dictionaries, but I doubt that those fit here. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, "gier" is the word for "yaw" that I have come across in the past, and my technical dictionaries confirm that that "gier" is the word for the airflow meaning of it. You can confirm this by checking the Dutch "gieren".
Note from asker:
That does sound promising, thanks! Can "gier" be used as verb too? For instance in this sentence: In case of disturbing winds yaw the nacelle with the rotor side facing into the wind direction.
