textile manufacturing qualifications
Hello to the Proz community!
I'm translating a set of certificates and am having trouble with the above term ('Flächengestaltung/Gewebe'). I know that this is a subject area within 'Textiltechnik' or 'textile manufacturing', but I'm unsure of which one, exactly; textiles is not my specialist area.
I think that it might mean something like 'material design' (i.e. the pattern on the material) in woven fabrics. If not, another theory is that this has to do with the weaving of the material itself, although this appears to also be called 'Flächenkonstruktion'. Finally, it could be both! Google searches have returned a variety of possibilities and I don't have the term in any of my accessible dictionaries. Each meaning seems feasible and so I'm at a loss of what to do - for a certificate I need to get this right!
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Many thanks in advance,
Marie

Textile/Surface design
Textile/surface design is the art of changing the appearance of natural and synthetic surfaces by the application of traditional, stylized, digitized, and illusionary techniques to embellish a product. It’s also the art of enhancing a surface’s structure by applying three-dimensional techniques, such as weaving, knitting, embroidery, lace, devoré, beading, and embossing.
Example sentence:
Surface Design means much more than textile and fiber design...

Discussion
In this context, I think that "surface design" could be the adequate term.
Mika
The term was "flächengestaltung/Gewebe", not "Flächenkonstruktion".
You are missing the subject - this term is part of design studies, not vice-verse (i.e. it is not textile studies...)
More context would be helpful in this case because there could be various possibilities of translation. You can study this subject at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology / University of Applied Sciences Niederrhein(Fachhochschule Niederrhein). You may perhaps find some useful terms on the internet site.

On this website, Flächenkonstruktion is translated as "Surface Texturing". "Gewebe" is normally translated as "fabrics".

Unfortunately, that is all the context I have; certificates are fairly sparse.
I hope that makes the context a little clearer!
Thanks,
Marie
