I ended up changing the paragraph a bit, and adding a bit more text to clarify, but the gist of it was that basically the companies seek to produce at the point on their PPC (production possibilities curve) where total revenues are maximized (where the PPC "reaches" or is tangent to the highest possible revenue line).
