French term

qui atteint la droite de revenu la plus élevé

French to English Bus/Financial Mathematics & Statistics mathematics
This is from a discussion of a figure illustrating the production possibilities curve (la frontière de possibilités de production). The production of pigs is represented by the x axis and the production of tourism is represented by the y axis. The figure shows two possible production curves (one solid and one dotted).

Here is the passage:

Le prix des services touristiques relatif à celui des porcs, p, détermine la pente de la ligne de revenu global de la zone à laquelle sont confrontées les deux entreprises dans chaque zone. La recherche du revenu maximal les conduit à produire au point sur leur frontière de production *qui atteint la droite de revenu (et donc de prospérité de la zone) la plus élevé*, donc au point dont la pente est égale au prix p.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 26, 2003:
Question: The figure shows lines which are tangential to each of the curves. This made me think the "line" is some sort of price line, except that the authors are calling it an income or revenue line ("la ligne de revenu global")which is confusing me--from my studies in economics (a while ago!)I only remember the price line being drawn tangentially to the PPC (production possibilities curve), and this line is also known as the "budget line" from the consumer perspective.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you again! This was the correct interpretation. I ended up changing the paragraph a bit, and adding a bit more text to clarify, but the gist of it was that basically the companies seek to produce at the point on their PPC (production possibilities curve) where total revenues are maximized (where the PPC "reaches" or is tangent to the highest possible revenue line). that reaches the highest level of revenue

Personally I'd drop the droite business... :)

Mi propuesta es un compendio de las dos anteriores.
ES lo que yo pondría.

highest income median (or resulting) line

the famous line being i take is the plotting of results of both factors..

or result plotting line
the line is probably the mathematical result of assumptions of more tourism fewer pigs, more pigs less tourism until the \"compromise\" is reached according to what is sought, so it is not just highest revenue line or anything else, it is the line on the diagram which is the result of privileging to some sort of equilibrium the the factors, hence plotted or result
Peer comment(s):

agree Eva Blanar : something in this line: where it reaches the highest of the income lines (in economic theory, the French revenu = English income)
