Two independent occurrences of a ***variable*** may be taken together with the atom(s) to which each ***variable*** is bound to form a 5 to 8-membered, heterocyclyl, aryl, or heteroaryl ring or a 3 to8-membered cycloalkyl ring. Exemplary rings that are formed when two independent occurrences of a substituent are taken together with the atom(s) to which each ***variable*** is bound include, but are not limited to the following: a) two independent occurrences of a substituent that are bound to the same atom and are taken together with that atom to form a ring, where both occurrences of the substituent are taken together with the atom to which they are bound to form a heterocyclyl, heteroaryl, carbocyclyl or aryl ring, wherein the group is attached to the rest of the molecule by a single point of attachment; and b) two independent occurrences of a substituent that are bound to different atoms and are taken together with both of those atoms to form a heterocyclyl, heteroaryl, carbocyclyl or aryl ring, wherein the ring that is formed has two points of attachment with the rest of the molecule.
