German term

Kostenschutzusage

German to English Law/Patents Medical Preparations
Schriftsatz

Fehlende Dringlichkeit

Dabei hat der Antragsteller auch eine *Kostenschutzzusage* in Empfang genommen.

My suggestion would be

He took delivery of an undertaking to protect the costs.

Does this make sense?

Assurance that costs would be covered

Not altogether! You would not normally "take delivery of" an undertaking; I suggest the following: "the applicant has received an assurance that costs will/would be covered".
If you have a look at the reference below, you'll find it in its most frequent context - legal liability costs insurance.

Received assurance that he will not be liable for expenses/costs

Since the context seems to indicate protection from liability.
