You must know of course that this is now obsolete. The European Common Market was conceived in 1960. It then evolved over several phases into today's EU (European Union):

ECM -> ECC (European Common Community) -> EC (European Community) -> EU

BTW. The article you have may be covering historical issues, but it could also be anachronistic since many Arab people and even commentators often speak about السوق الأوروبية المشتركة as if it still exists. If the discussion is topical (to put another KudoZ question in context!) then the term should be الإتحاد الأوروبي.

Of course, as a translator, you may have to be bug-for-bug compatible -as we say in software development- and translate the term to the ECM.

The second entity was the EEC (European Economic Community) not the ECC.
