Bourth (X) Oct 12, 2011:
Just out of interest Is this a "shall have such a unit" or a "such a unit will be provided" (by the Employer)? I suspect the former, which might change the nature of the beast. I imagine in the UK this is simply a "transformer" since site power tools are 110 volts.

(building) site connecting box

These are the sort of things you see stuck on a post around building sites, there are now quite strict regulations as to just what they must include.

Note that current building sitre regulations limit the length of extension leads, as pointed out by Bourth below, and hence most specifications state that a sufficient number of these 'coffrets' must be installed so that not working position is more than X metres from one; on one very extensive building site I translated the H&S requirements for (a large power station), this meant that there were dozens of these darned things to be installed, no doubt at great expense!
Peer comment(s):

agree Bourth (X) : Though might it not be a mobile unit, like a transformer? If there's only one of these things and the site is large, there'd be some long extension cords about!

Thanks, Alex! No, I believe the 'coffret' is the base unit from which the other things are connected, and into which the trafos are plugged.

temporary fuse box during building work

Ours is still here after 6 years

It does carry out the function of debranching wjhen there is an overload
therefore it must be a fuse box?
