An imprest bank account is a bank account that is periodically
funded from the General Revenue Fund (GRF) bank account as
expenditures are made. Generally, imprest bank accounts are used for
making payments where the Government’s central payment system
cannot be used in an effective or efficient manner (e.g., to pay
individuals for casual work such as fighting forest fires).

Definition - An imprest checking account is an account set up to make a specific category of expenditures, which cannot be made efficiently by the central accounting system. Imprest accounts derive their name from the fact that the account balance is maintained at a fixed level by regular reimbursement for the exact amount of the checks written.
