Spanish term

Tribunal de Sucesiones

Spanish to English Other Law (general)
I would like to know what will be the best way to translate this phrase from Puerto Rican Spanish into American English. It's an affidavit for the Department of taxes and finances of the state of New York.

Will it be okay to translate as: Sucession court?

Here is the full phrase:

tribunal de sucesiones, condado de King. El pueblo del estado de Nueva York
Por la gracia de Dios libre e independiente
Archivo No.2650/4967

OK, that's enough cheap point scoring, Allegro :-)
There's only one Guardian (fortunately), and only one Koran, whereas there's lots of probate courts. So there.
AllegroTrans Feb 10, 2011:
@ The Guardian (guardian?) I seem to recall this newspaper capitalizing the Koran.....
Bill Harrison (X) Feb 9, 2011:
Phil... I am a dedicated Grauniad reader but I am surprised at what you say regarding courts. I think the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court would take offence. Unless the name of the court is purely generic, e.g. the New York probate court, formally known as the Surrogates Court.

Thanks lorenab - though if I'd known this question had been asked so many times before, I wouldn't have bothered with it!
lorenab23 Feb 9, 2011:
Wow philgoddard We learn something new every day. You are right in New York, probate courts are know as surrogate's courts.

Inheritance Court?? Henry is about and will know. Maybe Court of Probate?? If nobody answers I'll look it up for you.

surrogate's court

The normal translation is "probate court", but in New York state (the question refers to Kings county, NY) they are called surrogate's courts. The second reference below actually refers to Kings county surrogate's court.

Thanks.
agree Bill Harrison (X) : I was agreeing and the answer disappeared. Probate Court is ok as a generic term but this is good research.

Thanks for agreeing with both my attempts!
agree AllegroTrans : As the text is specific to New York, yes, excellent, but capitalize both words

Thanks - but the Guardian style guide, which is my bible, says no capitals for the names of courts (or bible, in this context!)
