Azúcar y población (el libro) pone fin a la 'conspiración de silencio' existente en torno al latifundio azucarero y sus consecuencias, toda vez que al autor–alentado por un marcado nacionalismo patriítico–sienta en el banquillo de los acusados al controvertido tema latifundario."

I think that my proposal conveys the intended sense in a way that is idiomatic in English. Of the other three suggestions, I think only Deborah's is really plausible English....
