Spanish term

no se le dan mal tradicionalmente al

Non-PRO Spanish to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Magazine review

Discussion

Neil Ashby Sep 20, 2010:
Many clubs in England and Scotland are divided by religion. Everton (prods) and Liverpool (catholic), Man. Utd.(catholic) and Man City (prods), Tottenham have traditionally been Jewish etc.etc. nowadays, however, this is not so important as the players and board of directors come from around the world.

Valencia hasn't come off too badly in the past against the English sides

Lots of good suggestions already. I'm not wild about traditionally, so went for "in the past" - it's an exaggeration to call their previous track record a tradition anyway!

We´ll give the author of the text the benefit of the doubt, and simply point out that of course Ranger's is not an English club, but Scottish....

Lisa, re your comment below: well, yes, although I have to admit that it's the kind of cultural detail I used to mention to my EFL students - the kind of information that everyone "knows", but I don't think it's appropriate to state in a press article, especially since it isn't as cut and dried as that.
Note from asker:
He, he - in an earlier part of the text they referred to rangers as 'el club de los protestantes escoceses'. the 'Scottish protestants'. I left out the 'protestant' bit as I think it sounds very weird to mention their religion:)
Peer comment(s):

agree James Calder : A good option, Noni. As a Celtic fan, I could offer you a few alternative names for Rangers.
