Just a touch of irony?

I'm not sure this link will come out, but here's an instance of the phrase "as a pious practitioner of traditional science" - which, like the one before us, has a slightly ironical flavor to it.

For Judith, book search results for "count myself as a" (ignoring ones which say "as a dependent," of course) + noun:

2Judith. As a persnickety editor myself, I'm all for zapping superfluous words, but sometimes one may remove so many, that a sentence has no breathing room. To my ear, "count myself as a" is interchangeable with "see myself as a," and I think the slight element of modality suits this context. Thanks for the opportunity to reflect on that.

Thank you.
agree Susan Welsh : Right you are, Rachel. :)

Thanks, Susan - but, "one what"? ... "From the standpoint of traditional science, of which I count myself one..." doesn't quite work.

Thanks, Sergei.
neutral rns : Just wondering: which particular science (other than Christian) a man can be a practitioner of? :) / Thanks for the advice, I liked "practitioner of normal science" most :). BTW, the above link works.

Repeat: "just a touch of irony." But, do a book search and take your pick from practioners of the occult, mathematical, social, and other sciences. Even "traditional," as it turns out. I'll put that reference above.
neutral Judith Hehir : Rachel, the "as" has to go. Sorry. I am always deleting the superfluous. Extra words just weaken a text. "I count myself/consider myself lucky." Same here. PS. LOL to "Picky, picky." Editors are neurotic, Rachel.

Picky, picky! Sure, it's fine w/o "as," but mandatory to remove? I'd say it - with "count," not "consider" - and plenty of authors do. See link above. Or, do you think "as" is only acceptable before an adj or participle? / Continued above as a note.
