Forestry Conservation Program -- Mexico
The following is part of a description of an ongoing forestry conservation program:
Ha sido sorprendente la importancia biológica de la conservación en estas reservas celulares, se tienen reservas con bosque de pantano en las partes mas bajas de la cuenca, selvas medianas, selvas altas, bosque mesófilo, bosque de pino encino y dentro de ellas se han colectado mas de 400 especies de arboles, sin considerar los arbustos y hierbas anuales.
Very few hits for "cellular reserves" or "cell reserves", so I do not think either of these translations would work. What then?
Thank you.

(forest) conservation unit
This "reserva" is closer to "reservation" than to "reserve", in English. The adjective "celulare" indicates a subdivision of a certain (ecological) whole. However, "cellular reservation" is kind of forced. I found a few references to "ecological cells", but I believe "conservation unit" would be a better choice in English.

each pocket corresponds to a different altitude, as described

another option, if not too over the top:
"altitude-level biological strata/pockets"

conservation cells
The concept behind "Reservas Celulares" is a very particular one (described below) that represents a particular conservation strategy:
reservas celulares (áreas de vegetación secundaria, para extracción de recursos florísticos y faunísticos), http://elquetzal.laneta.apc.org/areasprotegidas/AreasNatProt...
The Fondo Mexicano para la Conservación de la Naturaleza A.C. (FMCN) arose out of the UN’s 1992 Earth Summit in Brazil. To learn more about FMCN’s emergence and engagements, check out its website, especially its detailed historical overview at http://www.fmcn.org/int_historia.htm.
..........reservas celulares (conservation cells), i.e., small patches of wooded land voluntarily set aside by (mostly small) land owners.
http://archive.uky.edu/bitstream/10225/312/etd.pdf
one must distinguish between grid cells in data mapping where high-conservation is a characteristic (a value) of that cell, it isn’t a conservation strategy as it is defined by the Mexican “reservas celulares”. http://www.state.in.us/dnr/lakemich/grants/IN_CELCP_4_22 _08...
The total land-use areas are kept constant across these maps: 22 urban cells, 1307 agricultural cells, and 237 conservation cells. http://www.hydrol-earth-syst-sci.net/14/325/2010/hess-14-325...
“Conservation cells” as one understands it from different contexts is enclosed areas that are under a conservation strategy. http://conservancy.ukzn.ac.za/HomePage14637.aspx
Nationwide, this has led to the establishment of 242 conservation units (gene conservation reserves > 30 ha and gene conservation cells < 30 ha) with a total surface area of more than 8200 ha. http://www.biologischevielfalt.at/fileadmin/inhalte/chm/pdf-...
Conservation Cells occurring on the proposed Project site consist of the western half of this Cell Group, while the eastern and northeastern portions of this Cell Group are located within the Harford Springs Reserve and are therefore already conserved. http://www.tlma.co.riverside.ca.us/planning/content/hearings...
