Context, please?? As you can see, the most credible response, so far, is "depending on context". Without knowing (at least) the country of origin and the specific theme of said legal doctrine, even competent translators would have to guess, or divine, the meaning of "LMV".

Please allow me to stress the word specific: Law/Patents - Law (general) / Tax Law is not even close.

I believe it is better to use the term law.

Although, as a translation one could use: Legal regulating norm
But, it would be considered a law for all purposes, since one has to comply with.

disagree coolbrowne : Sorry, but it's not "better to use the term law". There's a specific difference between law (statute) and regulation (legal interpretation of the statute). With the specific contex, it's now clear: it is not a law, but one of its provisions.

However, the wording deriving from that amendment has merely given rise to even more critical comments by academic authors since a provision which started life as an anti-fraud measure has now turned into a provision governing a new chargeable event.

agree coolbrowne : Yes, given the specific context, this refers to an article of a statute (LMV), or part thereof. With "provision", one avoids the inadequacy of either "law" or "regulation" (which could also be misleading).
