Umetna inteligenca (UI, oziroma v angleščini AI - Artificial Intelligence) je področje informatike z interdisciplinarnim značajem. Cilj UI je razvoj naprav, ki se vedejo kot, da bi razpolagale z inteligenco (John McCarthy, 1955). Umetna inteligenca je prepletena s psihologijo, nevrologijo, matematiko, logiko, filozofijo in drugimi vedami. Izvorni cilj umetne inteligence je izdelati stroj, ki posnema človeško razmišljanje. Pri tem so vključena tudi čustva in zavest.
