En Mongolplet er en gråblå plet på huden oftest over korsryggen hos nyfødte børn af mørklødet race. Pletten skyldes øget pigment i dybtliggende celler. Mongolpletter må ikke forveksles med Mongolisme eller Dawns-Syndrom (kromosomfejl). Mongolpletterne skyldes en ufarlig ophobning af melanocytter, en celletype, der producerer malanin, et brunsort pigment. (Min-Mave.dk)
Børn, som ses i børnemodtagelse eller skadestue på formodning om at have lidt overlast, skal oftest indlægges til udredning. Undtagelse herfra kan være, at der helt åbenbart er tale om en forveksling med en ikke voldelig betinget tilstand som for eksempel forekomst af mongolpletter, som er mørke reaktionsløse pigmenteringer i huden over korsbenet og/eller langs columna.
