"reja del ascensor"

Spanish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
"La reja del ascensor tenía flores con cáliz dorado" (from a short story).

Is it correct to say "the bars of the lift" or "the grille of the lift"? Still I think the text is referring to the door of the lift.
