neutral Alexandra Taggart : Expresion you used isn't about irresponsible person, but one who is dressing, preparing himself too slowly in order TO GO OUT.

you wouldn't hurry up to save your own life

you wouldn't hurry up even if your life depends on it
Peer comment(s):

neutral Alexandra Taggart : It's not about the person who is not in a hurry anywhere, but that one who is going to wait God knows how long.

OK, then I suggest you leave out the first part and only use "to save your own life". Ex: You wouldn't be able to do it to save your own life.

Stay for John Long the carrier

.
Peer comment(s):

agree Alexandra Taggart : I don't want to put disagree to anyone.This expression means " I will die before you come back" and I think "waiting for a coffin carrier" is appropriate translation here

you are as slow as molasses

This is a neutral idiom if you want to stay away from deaths and funerals and just make a point that the person is slow-moving.

Another one:
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for you to do it.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Alexandra Taggart : This expression means that there is a little hope this person will/did come back quickly, most likely he/she would go wikedly to visit his/her friends on the way or drop in some other places, expression is about waiting, not about that person being slow.
