Inrush current is the initial surge of current that results when power is first applied to a load having a low starting impedance, such as a discharged capacitor, a cold lamp filament, or a stopped motor's winding.

There may be a small difference, since inrush current seems to refer only to the peak that occurs when one turns a device on, but in Portuguese the terms is used for a peak that occurs at any time. To the best of my knowledge, there is no specific term to be used exclusively for the peak that happens when the device is turned on. Additionally, in the example sentences provided by the requester, thermistors are mentioned, and those protect against any peaks, not only those which happen when a device is turned on. I therefore believe this translation will be satisfactory to all the contexts informed.

Concordo com a correção. Havia me confundido com o fato do termo ser geralmente aplicado a motores, mas não é necessariamente aplicado a eles.
